Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have named Pro Scout Lorne Henning, the club’s new Director of Player Personnel.

Henning, 54, served as a Pro Scout for Vancouver last season, joining the Canucks in September 2005 after having worked as an Assistant Coach with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim from 2002 to 2004. Henning’s extensive NHL career both as a player and coach saw him play for nine years with the New York Islanders (1972-81) and work as an assistant coach and head coach for 19 seasons.

Henning was a member of the New York Islanders Stanley Cup Championship teams as a player in the 1979-80 and 1980-81 seasons and then as an assistant coach in 1981-82 and 1982-83. The four-time Stanley Cup winner served as an assistant coach alongside former Islanders Head Coach and Hockey Hall of Famer, Al Arbour.

After being drafted 17th overall in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft, Henning spent his entire professional hockey career with the NY Islanders. The Saskatchewan native played in 543 career games with the Islanders before retiring as a two-time Stanley Cup Champion at the close of the 1980-81 season. He joined the coaching fraternity the following year as Islanders Assistant Coach and achieved similar success helping lead the club to another two Stanley Cup Championships. Henning continued on to an 18-year NHL career behind the bench, including coaching assignments with the North Stars, Blackhawks and Mighty Ducks. During the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons Henning served as the Head Coach for the Minnesota North Stars and was Head Coach of the NY Islanders in the 1994-95 season.
