Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior-Vice President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have agreed to a new East Coast Hockey League affiliate deal with the Victoria Salmon Kings.
"We are pleased to announce this new deal with the Salmon Kings," said Steve Tambellini, Vancouver Canucks Vice-President and Assistant General Manager. "This partnership establishes a strong local connection between the Canucks and the Salmon Kings and reinforces our commitment to further develop and support hockey in British Columbia. We believe that our relationships with both the Salmon Kings and the Manitoba Moose will greatly benefit the growth of our players."
The Victoria Salmon Kings franchise was established in 2004 after being relocated from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Salmon Kings were one of nine ECHL expansion teams in 2003-04, a league that consists of 28 teams located in one province and 16 states. Victoria plays within the West Division of the ECHL’s National Conference made up of six teams including the Alaska Aces, Idaho Steelheads, Las Vegas Wranglers, Phoenix RoadRunners and Utah Grizzlies.
