VANCOUVER, B.C., — The Vancouver Canucks, in conjunction with the National Hockey League, released the club’s 2006-07 regular and pre-season season schedules today. Vancouver opens the regular season on the road at Detroit on Thursday, October 5th; the Canucks home opener is scheduled for October 13th versus the San Jose Sharks.

The 2006-07 NHL schedule format features a continued emphasis on divisional play and heightened rivalries. Vancouver will play eight games against each Northwest Division club (32 total) and four games against each of the 10 non-division clubs in the Western Conference (40 total). The Canucks remaining 10 games will be split between five match-ups at home versus Southeast Division clubs, the first time Southeast Division teams have played in Vancouver since the 2003-04 season, and five road games versus Northeast Division clubs.

The Vancouver Canucks will play four home-and-road series this season, all facing Northwest Division opponents. The first divisional rivalry opens at General Motors Place against the Edmonton Oilers on October 16th, followed by a road game in Edmonton on October 17th. The schedule also sees Vancouver play a total of 11 back-to-back series. Three afternoon games appear on the schedule this season: February 25th at Dallas, April 7th at San Jose and April 8th at Phoenix.

The Canucks will play a six game home stand from November 6th – 19th, facing Dallas, Anaheim, Calgary, Detroit, St. Louis and Chicago. The team then plays three games on the road before returning for a five game home stand versus Columbus, Anaheim, Colorado, Edmonton and Carolina from November 28th – December 4th. The two home stands combine for a total of eight home games in November, the most to be played at home for Vancouver in one month during the 2006-07 season.

The 2006-07 schedule includes 14 home stands and 15 road trips. The Canucks play a total of 18 weekend games at home. Tuesday evenings will be the busiest night of the week for the Canucks this season with 19 games falling on that day. 16 games will be played on Thursday evenings, followed by Saturday (14), Friday (12), Sunday (10), Wednesday (6) and Monday (5).

The Canucks will play four pre-season home games and a total of eight pre-season games, all against Western Conference opponents: Anaheim (2), Calgary (2), Edmonton (2) and San Jose (2).
