Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that goaltender Maxime Ouellet has been acquired from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Ouellet will report directly to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

Ouellet, 24, has spent the 2005-06 season with the Hershey Bears of the AHL, the Washington Capitals’ minor league affiliate. The Quebec – native has seen time in one game this season. In 2004-05, Ouellet was a member of the Portland Pirates, posting a goals against average of 2.89 and a record of 15-20-3 in 40 games played. He was named to the AHL Second All-Star Team in 2003 after posting seven shutouts.

The 6’2”, 195-pound goaltender has played for two NHL teams. In 2003-04, Ouellet was a member of the Washington Capitals, posting two victories. Also in 2003-04 Ouellet enjoyed a career year in the AHL, posting 10 shutouts, a 1.99 GAA and a .930 Save Percentage. Ouellet was also a member of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2000-01. Ouellet has played in a total of eight NHL games and has recorded one shutout and a goals against average of 2.99. He was drafted in the first round, 22nd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

During his junior career with the Quebec Remparts, Ouellet was named to the QMJHL Second All-Star Team in 1999, 2000 and 2001. He also won the Jacques Plante Trophy in 1999 for the fewest goals against in the QMJHL with an average of 2.70. Ouellet has also represented Team Canada at two World Junior Hockey Championships.
