Vancouver, B.C. Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed free agent goaltender Brent Johnson. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Brent has proven that he can play and play well at the NHL level and we are excited to have him under contract," said Dave Nonis. "With over 150 games of NHL experience, Brent will be given every opportunity at camp to compete for a job with the Canucks. He adds a great deal of depth to our goaltending position."

Johnson, 28, split the 2003-04 season with the St. Louis Blues and Phoenix Coyotes where he posted five wins, nine losses and two ties in 18 games. Over five NHL seasons, Johnson has appeared in 151 NHL games, recording 77 wins, 53 losses, 13 ties, 12 shutouts and a 2.28 Goals-Against-Average.

In 2001-02 Johnson enjoyed a career season with the Blues, in 58 games, he posted a record of 34-20-4 and a 2.18 GAA. He has also played in 12 NHL Playoff games, recording five wins, five losses and a 1.84 GAA.

The 6-foot-3, 205 lbs., native of Farmington, Michigan was originally selected in the 5th round, 129th overall in the 1995 Entry Draft by Colorado. Johnson was traded to the St. Louis Blues in 1997 for draft picks. He made his debut with the Blues in 1998-99, appearing in six games. His first NHL game action came Feb. 16, 1999, and he notched his first League win Feb. 26 against the Calgary Flames.
