Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed winger Jozef Balej.

Balej, 25, played 37 games for HC Fribourg-Gotteron of the Swiss League last season recording 30 points (13-17-30) and 44 penalty minutes. In 2005-06 the Myjava, Slovakia native played 39 games with the Manitoba Moose scoring 29 points (14-15-29) with 20 penalty minutes. Balej has played 18 career NHL games including one game with the Canucks, in which he recorded an assist, during the 2005-06 season. In 18 NHL games Balej has six points (1-5-6) and four penalty minutes.

Balej set career records in 2003-04 scoring 26 goals, 36 assists (26-36-62) for the Hamilton Bulldogs and Hartford Wolfpack and was selected to play in the 2004 AHL All-star game.

The 61, 195-pound winger was originally drafted by Montreal in the 3rd round, 78th overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
