Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed forward Juraj Simek.  In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Simek, 19, spent the 2006-07 with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, registering 57 points (28-29-57) and 41 penalty minutes in 58 regular season games. The 6'1", 189-pound forward also recorded six points (1-5-6) and six penalty minutes in nine games played. The Slovakia native was amongst the league leaders for first year players in goals (22) and tallied three 3-point games during the first half of the season. Simek was Brandon's first choice of the 2006 Canadian Hockey League Import draft.

Simek has represented Switzerland on two occasions at the World Junior Hockey Championships. He was the first Brandon player to attend the WJHC since Jordin Tootoo played for Team Canada in 2003. Prior to joining the Wheat Kings, Simek played in Switzerland for Kloten.

Simek was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round, 167th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
