Vancouver, B.C. Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed 2003 first round draft pick, centre Ryan Kesler to a new contract.

Kesler, 21, is coming off of his first full season in the NHL, recording 10 goals, two of which were game-winners, and 13 assists (10-13-23) to go along with 79 penalty minutes in 82 games played. In 110 career games with the Canucks, Kesler has tallied 12 goals, 16 assists (12-16-28) and 95 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-2, 205 pound native of Livonia, Michigan has experienced success on the international stage, most recently joining Team USA for the 2006 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Latvia this past Spring. Kesler, a member of Team USA, scored the game-tying goal in the Final at the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championship in Helsinki to help win the gold medal. He also spent two years with the US National Team Development Program and was a member of the 2002 squad that claimed the IIHF World Under-18 Championship. Kesler received the Best Player Award at the conclusion of that tournament.

Kesler was selected in the first round, 23rd overall by the Canucks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
